| Our site takes its name from the title of a favourite track by a favourite band, The Manic Street Preachers. It was their resounding retort to those who slated them in their early days when they were trying to make it. Though some of the lyrics are unarguably (and youthfully) spiteful, the underlying message is exhuberantly positive and brimming with self-belief: you cannot knock us down. We, as a family, in common with a great many other people, have cause to empathise and adopt the same stance. We shall never give in, never cease to believe in ourselves. |

Welcome to our little repositoryThis website tends to be a bit experimental in terms of deciding what we have the time and inclination to include in it. The Gallery gets updated more often than anything and there are pictures waiting to be formatted and uploaded from Dylan and Linda's farewell bash - sorry for the delay, folks - it's been a bit chaotic here recently! Caroline is quite good at maintaining her journal page when she's away at university. She uses it as a single place to keep the whole family up to date with what she and her friends have been up to. When we have time, we intend to upgrade the journal pages to be more like forums, so that visitors can comment to what's been posted. To find the journals, click on the About link, then click on the image for the person whose journal you'd like to read. Don't expect too much, though - unfortunately, most of us rarely find time to post anything. Most of the other links are likely to prove very disappointing, too. I really must put some effort into this site. Here's an explanation of why each of the links is there and why some of them will be disappearing: WORKINGThis link was added with the intention of chatting about what we do and sharing some of our favourite, related information such as links to really useful resources and maybe even a few snippets of our own that you could grab and use. But that old time thing keeps getting in the way. I'll keep it there as I'd like to think we'll start using it one of these days. TIME OFFI'm going to remove this one as all its possible contents are covered elsewhere, which would explain why the page hasn't been used. MUSICHere, we want to share our views on the music and artists we like, and it's quite likely we'd have a few things to say about those we can't stand - if only we'd just get around to it. At one time we had ambitions to wrap up a sub-site in here - a small Manic Street Preachers fan site - and then we realised how much time it would take to gather and assemble the information and there are a number of excellent fan sites already out there, so our little effort would pale into insignificance. We do love our Manics, though. Best band of the 20th Century - beautiful music, deeply thought-provoking lyrics from uncommonly well-read people, and no vacuous moon-in-joon lurve slush - perfect. FORMULA 1We had really hoped that Caroline would find time to flex her burgeoning journo skills here, given that she wants to be a Formula 1 (and other sports) journalist/reporter when she finishes her degree. It's been her abiding passion since she was five or less and she knows her subject in remarkable depth. But she's been too busy doing whatever students do in their spare time, so there's rarely anything here unless I have a rant about that Celine Dion clone in the red clown suit. Besides, 'Celine' and his snotty band of disciples have taken the sport out of is these past few seasons and there's not been too much to say. Except we hope Jenson ends up back with Williams in 2005. FOOTBALLThree of us support Newcastle United. Dunno why every season seems to get off to such a mediocre start for us, but it gets better. We just hope it gets better in the 2004/2005 season much quicker than it did in the previous season. If it does, we should be in with some serious chances in Captain Shearer's final season. If ever there was a player who deserves to lift some silverware ... STUDENTSOh yeah - the plan was for 'Mothership' - as our Student affectionately refers to me - to devise and post up some student-friendly recipes, ie cheap, easy to find ingredients and no requirement for fancy kitchen equipment 'cos by the end of their first semester there was no guarantee they'd still have a saucepan between 12 of them in one Halls flat. As it happens, Caroline go into all things Oriental, including Martial Arts and cookery, so she bought a wok, a pile of spices and bottles of cooking fluids and she'd be the last person to benefit from my Cookin' fer Eejits range. I'll still do it some time, though. LINKSNeed to remove the time-out from the script that runs this page, so that links we've posted don't disappear after 90 days. Also need to add a category field to the database and the query, so that visitors can choose which types of links they'd like to view. What Next? Most importantly, we really need to do some work on this site! We should add a guest book, just in case we ever get any visitors. We need to add the forum functionality. And we need to remind one another to post journal entries fairly often. Caroline suggested we add a Film Reviews page, as she and Laura both love watching films and talking about them afterwards. We might add a Book Reviews page, too. Which reminds me, if you haven't read Brick Lane by Monica Ali, you're missing out. It overtook Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson) as my favourite book, Snow Crash having previously overtaken The Stonor Eagles by William Horwood. I've recently decided I want to read more autobiographies, having read only a few in my time. I also keep a copy of Fuse by Patrick Jones handy and dip into it when my mind needs waking up - which is more often than I'd like now that I'm getting old and daft.
